CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Charlottesville City Schools will resume and complete the process of reviewing the names of its elementary schools. A city schools release says they’re resume reviewing to assure the schools’ names are in alignment with the community’s current values. The process had been stopped in light of other priorities the schools were working on last year, as well as the induction of four new school board members.
Committees are being formed for four elementary schools: with Burnley-Moran and Johnson resuming name reviews that begun in 2022-23, and Greenbrier and Jackson-Via — the final two school names to be reviewed. Staff, students, parents/guardians, and community members who are interested in serving on a school’s name review committee are invited to apply and see more information by visiting charlottesvilleschools.org/schoolnames.
