Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Simon Davidson of Charlottesville 29, has released his much-anticipated annual list, Best Thing I Ate All Year 2024. In its 10th edition, the list gathers insights from the area’s most esteemed chefs, highlighting the culinary gems they’ve savored this year.

Davidson explained the list’s enduring appeal, stating, “I think the appeal of it is that people really get curious when they hear what chefs like… to eat where chefs eat, eat what chefs eat.”

This year, Smyrna stood out as a fan-favorite with four mentions, including one from Craig Hartman for their steak. Davidson remarked, “If he’s picking the best thing he ate all year, it’s probably worth listening.” Other standout dishes highlighted by chefs included a guacamole dish from Tacos Gomez and a Turkish cotton candy dessert from Smyrna.

The list also highlights the collaborative spirit of Charlottesville’s food scene, where chefs and restaurants enthusiastically promote each other’s work, reflecting the good faith and supportive nature of the community.
