CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A Virginia State trooper, Logan G. Pingley, has been indicted on one count of felony communicating a written threat, the Virginia State Police confirmed Wednesday. Pingley is based in Charlottesville, assigned to the Appomattox Division Area 18 office in the city.

According to 29 News, an Albemarle County woman came home to find a threatening two-page message on her door last November. Written on one 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper was “YOU’RE NOT SAFE ANYWHERE.” The second sheet said, “F*** AROUND AND FIND OUT.”

Her attorney, Jeff Fogel, told 29 News that the incident was caught on the woman’s doorbell camera. After watching the footage, he said, his client called Albemarle County police.

“The police told her it was a state police officer. She was still very concerned, learning that he didn’t live very far from her,” Fogel said.

On June 2, 2025, Virginia State Police was notified that an Albemarle County Grand Jury had returned a true bill for one felony count of communicating a written threat against 31-year-old Pingley.

In accordance with state police policy, Pingley has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the legal proceedings as well as the required internal investigation by the VSP Professional Standards Division.

“There’s no justification for going out and threatening somebody, particularly if you’re a law enforcement officer who knows the law,” Fogel told 29 News.

Pingley has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of both legal proceedings and an internal investigation by the VSP’s Professional Standards Division.

Under Virginia criminal law, issuing a threat of harm is a Class 6 felony and carries a penalty of 1-5 years in prison.
