Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Charlottesville 10 Miler is set to celebrate its 50th anniversary on Saturday, March 22, marking a milestone for the city’s most prestigious road race. The event, which has been a staple of the local running community, continues to attract participants from all over. “It is our oldest and largest and pretty much our most prestigious, you know, iconic jewel,” said Mark Lorenzoni, a community fitness and running advocate. This year’s race will take runners through key areas of Charlottesville, including the University of Virginia, downtown, and historic neighborhoods.

Lorenzoni emphasized the race’s impact beyond competition, highlighting its ability to unite the community and support local charities. “It entertains, it gets people healthy, it brings people together, and we raise money at the same time,” he said. Organized by the Charlottesville Track Club, the 10 Miler has long been a way to showcase the city while raising funds for nonprofit organizations. Many participants, including race alumni, return each year, often running alongside their children who now attend UVA.

Registration remains open for runners and volunteers, with sign-ups available until the night before the race. “Absolutely, yeah, they can still register to participate both as an entrant and running it, or they can still, we still need volunteers,” Lorenzoni confirmed. With thousands of spectators expected to line the streets, the event is set to be a major celebration for Charlottesville, reinforcing its reputation as one of the premier road races in the region.
