Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Chaplain Joseph Varaksa, the senior chaplain at Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail, recently spoke about the pressing issues of reentry, incarceration, and the ongoing efforts to support individuals transitioning back into the community. Varaksa highlighted the importance of addressing these challenges head-on.

“We’re trying to make sure that we’re attacking the issue…you’ve got to go with the heart,” Varaksa stated, emphasizing the holistic approach being implemented, including new programs like “Wind” for incarcerated women.

Discussing the difficulties faced by those reentering society, he noted, “It’s all about money. How do I make money to live?” He stressed the need for community support, particularly in providing employment opportunities for those with a criminal background. Varaksa expressed optimism, saying, “I’m seeing more and more of that, so that’s a positive thing. I’m very excited about that.”
