CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Charlottesville Albemarle Convention & Visitors Bureau reports visitors to Charlottesville and Albemarle spent nearly $1-billion in 2023. The bureau’s Brantley Ussery says the exact number of $956-million is up nearly 6% over 2022, and is about 3% of total visitor spending in Virginia.

Ussery says food and beverage was the top category for visitor spending, which is a huge considering the area got the Food & Wine magazine “Wine Region of 2024”, and getting nominated over the summer as one of the top culinary towns in the South by “The Local Palate”. The $956-million in visitor’s spending generates $47-million in local taxes, and supports 7000 jobs in the region.
