CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The recent Charlottesville Radio Group- Red Cross Broadcasters For Blood drive at the Doubletree January 13 resulted in just about literally what the doctor ordered. Coming at a critical time, donors came into the event and left 237 units for area hospitals. Central Virginia Red Cross Executive Director Bill Brent spent a lot of time on WINA Morning News expressing the tremendous need after the winter weather over the previous week resulted in numerous blood drive cancellations.
With the dedicated support of local broadcasters, volunteers, and first-time donors, the event helped address the ongoing shortage of blood supplies in Central Virginia. The day saw remarkable contributions, including a notable achievement from 3WV Morning Show host Tawne Hayes, who was able to donate blood after being deferred for 10 years, and Anand Harsh from 106.1 The Corner, who donated double red blood cells, an especially impactful contribution.
“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who gave their time and blood to make this drive such a success,” said Susan Terwilleger, event co-coordinator from Charlottesville Radio Group. “The support from the community, our local broadcasters, and the American Red Cross volunteers was overwhelming. We helped save lives in our region.”
