CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Former 5th District Congressman Bob Good said he’s still considering whether or not to run against incumbent John McGuire, a fellow Republican, in 2026.
“Last year, I filed paperwork to keep my campaign account open which means I technically filed paperwork for 2026 to keep my options open,” Good said Monday during an appearance on the Schilling Show. “While we filed that paperwork a year ago, nothing new has been announced since then. My wife Tracey and I are still praying about what the Lord has for us in our future for 2026 and beyond.”
Though he no longer serves as the Congressman in the 5th district, Good’s website, goodforamerica.org, remains active raising funds for the Good for America Victory Committee that aims to “support the efforts of Congressman Bob Good as he continues to fight for our shared American values,” the site reads.
He also shared he would be doing some speaking engagements at district Republican party events and meetings as well as continue his Good for America podcast.
Good served as the district’s representative from 2021-2025. He lost the support of support of President Trump, who backed McGuire in the GOP primary, helping McGuire to victory.
During his appearance, Good criticized the Congressional recess.
“Some of them undoubtedly are working very hard getting around their districts, visiting with constituents, holding meetings with small and large groups,” Good said. “But if you’re in a safe district and you don’t care a whole lot about your constituents you can literally take the whole month of August off.”
Good noted when he served as a representative under Republican control, both House Speakers supported forgoing the recess if there was still work to be done including the required 12 annual appropriation bills. These bills, Good explained, are crucial to fund the federal government and avoid a shutdown and have still not been passed in 2025.
Good said he supports the federal government releasing the Jeffrey Epstein files, something Trump had pledged to do but then seemed to backtrack when multiple news agencies reported his name appears in the files. Esptein was arrested in July 2019 on federal sex trafficking charges in New York.
“I can’t think of any reason why any Republican can defend not full disclosure, not full release of everything and let the chips fall where they may,” Good said.
In discussing the Department of Justice, Good expressed his hope that Attorney General Pam Bondi would not pursue politically motivated investigations, something opponents of the current administration believe is happening in a number of areas.
“Bondi should just want truth, transparency, accountability and, yes, justice, and she should be able to do that independently without pressure from President Trump,” he said.
