CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLERIGHTNOW) – Portions of Biscuit Run Park are temporarily closed as Albemarle County begins construction on two major projects: a stream restoration effort and a new mountain biking zone.
The northeast and northwest sections of the park—near the Foothills Loop and Hickory Ridge Trail—are affected by closures. Albemarle County Parks & Recreation is asking visitors to respect all signage and stay out of closed areas to protect natural resources, ensure safety, and prevent disruptions to construction work.
Biscuit Run Park, which opened in December 2024, has already recorded over 30,000 visits. County officials anticipate even higher use in the coming months as spring weather draws more residents outdoors.
The Biscuit Run Stream Restoration project targets a one-mile section of the stream with eroded banks. Plans include the installation of intermittent log jam structures to mimic beaver dams, improving water quality and flood management while enhancing wildlife habitats. Chronolog stations have been placed along the stream to allow community members to submit time-lapse photos of the transformation.
The Downhill and Skills Bike Area will be the park’s first bike-only zone, featuring trails and jump lines designed for mountain bikers at all skill levels. The Charlottesville Area Mountain Bike Club (CAMBC) is funding the project’s construction in partnership with the County.
