CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – With June 17 primary day less than a week away, a lot of money is circulating around candidates in Democratic primaries in the Charlottesville City Council and Albemarle County Board of Supervisors races. In the City Council race, Jen Fleisher has raised the most money among the three running for two nominations at $20, 272. Second is Mayor JuanDiego Wade at $17,636 and Vice Mayor Todd Pinkston close behind at $16,986. Free Enterprise Forum’s Neil Williamson pointed out on Wednesday’s WINA Morning News that this total cash is 81% of all the money raised in all 31 of the city and town council primary races across the Commonwealth. However, he noted if Free Enterprise’s candidate forum is any indicator, a sparse attendance shows not a lot of energy in this race though he sees a lot of signs. But he says signs don’t vote and the winners are the ones who get their voters out. He also noted Wade and Pinkston are running as a duo, so their money is being pooled together.

Williamson said Free Enterprise’s candidates’ forum for the Jack Jouett Albemarle Board of Supervisors race showed a lot more energy. He called the 30 there “well-attended”, especially on an evening that was pouring rain. Sally Duncan has raised a lot more money in that Democratic primary race than Dave Shreve… $23,272 to Shreve’s $9392. That said, only two other candidates in the state have raised more than Duncan as her total is third among all the supervisors’ candidates running across the Commonwealth.
