Beverley Louise (Wingfield) Monroe of Charlottesville, Virginia, peacefully passed away at her home on December 6, 2024.
Born on February 14, 1930, in Charlottesville, VA, she was the daughter of John Richard Wingfield II and Betsey Jones Wingfield. Beverley was the last surviving member of her generation, preceded in death by her parents, seven siblings, and her son, Richard McDougal Monroe.
Growing up during the Great Depression, Beverley developed a strong sense of family and community, values she carried with her throughout her life. She was known for making the most of every situation, always finding something to be thankful for. Her ability to see the good in others and in every circumstance made life brighter for everyone fortunate enough to know her. She greeted everyone with a kind word and always expressed gratitude for even the smallest acts of kindness. Generous and forgiving, she sought the best in people and uplifted them with her light.
Beverley was also renowned for being the perfect hostess. She found immense joy in having a full house, ensuring that her table included everyone’s favorite dishes. No one in her home experienced an empty plate or glass, and she never took a bite until she knew everyone else had been served.
Throughout her life, Beverley faced numerous challenges, both physical and emotional, that would have overwhelmed many. Yet, she embodied resilience. There was no obstacle she couldn’t overcome, and it is with this same strength that we now accept that her time has come.
Beverley is survived by her daughter, Margaret McKay (Monroe) Kincaid, and her favorite son-in-law, Thomas L. Kincaid, of Tobaccoville, North Carolina; her son, Edward Rainey Monroe, and his wife, Chris Monroe, of Fayetteville, West Virginia; as well as a large extended family whom she cherished deeply.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor Beverley’s memory this holiday season by giving generously to your local community, ensuring that everyone has a full belly and a moment of joy.
