CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The longest running tribute on the Beta Bridge was painted over and has been painted back on the bridge again. The UVa football team went to work painting a new “forever our hearts” tribute on the bridge after who claims to be the 17 Society painted it over with a thick coat of just blue paint. 17 affixed a note on the bridge — that they just painted over with a coat of blue — with its new message shown below.

In putting “1LD, 15DC, and 41DP” back on the bridge, Virginia Football social media says “let’s continue to shine that light, illuminating the 3 angels each day”. There are paint markers on the railing with which many have used to write their own messages. Click here to see that message.

There is divided reaction some saying the tribute should stay, but others — especially in the vicinity of the bridge — were angry about 17’s actions. WINA News is also making an effort after some alumni question the existence of 17. Secret society listings in the past at UVa have numbers 7, 13, 21, and 43, but 17 is not including in lists found so far.
The commemoration that was painted over was the longest-standing posting on the bridge, which has traditionally been a place where students and the UVA community could paint their own messages over messages prior.
