Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A remarkable community initiative is underway as Bennetts Village teams up with Tiger Fuel Markets to create an all-abilities play space at Penn Park. This project aims to offer an inclusive playground where children of all ages and abilities can play together, filling a vital gap in accessible recreational spaces.
Steve Gaines, a board member of Bennetts Village, highlighted the project’s origins. “It was named after a young boy, Bennett McClurkin Gibney. He had spinal muscular atrophy, and he loved to play on a playground, but the closest place he could go was Richmond,” Gaines shared. T The project seeks to provide a locally accessible play space so children of all abilities can enjoy the joy of playgrounds without having to travel far.
Tiger Fuel Markets is supporting the initiative by encouraging customers to round up their purchases throughout December. “It all adds up over time,” Gaines noted. “We’re really grateful to Tiger Fuel for their support.”
The project is progressing steadily, with a treehouse play structure featuring interactive sensory walls and charging outlets slated to open next month. The grand opening is planned for spring, though the full vision will take years to complete.
