CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLERIGHTNOW) —The City of Charlottesville celebrated the long-awaited grand opening of the Belmont Bridge.

After years of debate, the final design goals for the bridge included preserving views of the mountains and railroad tracks, maintaining a 25 MPH speed limit with one lane in each direction, and ensuring a separated pedestrian zone.

The Belmont Bridge was designed to provide accessibility for vehicles, pedestrians, and bicyclists.

Mayor Juandiego Wade said he was grateful for everyone that worked together on the project.

City officials hope the bridge will serve the Charlottesville community for over 100 years.
