CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – At Advanced Pain Management of Virginia, Dr. Scott Wagner and his team are always looking for unique ways to help treat each individual patient. Even if multiple patients have the same diagnosis, Wagner says they didn’t get that diagnosis the same way and may need different solutions.

“As my career has gone on, I don’t see the easy ones anymore,” he said. “It’s where everybody else has failed or where traditional things have failed.”

Understanding EBOO Therapy

As his career has gone on, Wagner has opted to look for all sorts of therapies that can help his patients. One of these methods is extracorporeal blood oxygenation and ozonation therapy, or EBOO Therapy. Wagner describes this process as drawing blood out of one arm, cleaning, ozonating and oxygenating, then injecting the same blood back into the other arm.

“The dark blood comes out, and a light pink blood goes in. And so commonly, my patients say, ‘Man, this is like getting an oil change for the body,’ and so we love those analogies that my patients use.”

The benefits of EBOO

At Advanced Pain Management of Virginia, Wagner said he’s used EBOO Therapy to help cause turnarounds in patients with long-term diseases like peripheral neuropathies, which some of his patients have had for decades.

“By their second session, they don’t have it,” he said.

Wagner said the therapy also improves patients’ blood work and generally gives them more energy. All-in-all, the therapy’s ultimate goal is to make sure the nervous system is less inflamed and the body is more potent to be able to heal.

Finding EBOO’s potential

While EBOO therapy is already being used by Wagner and his team to great effect, research suggests that it could even be used to treat chronic infections, like lymes disease or hepatitis, autoimmune disorders and even diabetes.

When discussing these possibilities, Wagner shared that while he doesn’t treat diseases like diabetes directly, he has had patients that have had pain in part because of those diseases impacting the immune system. From his experience, he believes treatments like EBOO can help mitigate the diseases’ inflammatory effects by providing the blood with more oxygen.

“Most doctors would agree that most diseases are caused by oxidative stress,” he said.
