CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Anthony Hopkins’ sentencing for both the May, 24, 2025 Brookdale Apartments shooting in Albemarle County, and the July 4, 2025 shootings in the City of Charlottesville will be a joint sentencing on Nov. 24 in City Circuit Court. Circuit Court Judge Cheryl Higgins confirmed that plan Monday morning during a docket call in Albemarle County Circuit Court.
In August, the 21-year-old Hopkins pled guilty in the county to attempted malicious wounding and shooting a firearm from a vehicle, charges stemming from the Brookdale incident. In September, he pled guilty in the city to two charges of attempted malicious wounding and two charges of using a firearm in a felony in connection with the July 4 shooting on Orangedale Ave. that injured five people, including two children.
Hopkins was arrested on Aug. 7 in connection with the Brookdale incident, then later was charged with the city shooting.
Hopkins’ case in the City of Charlottesville took a turn last month when prosecutors revealed that six different firearms were used in the July 4 melee that injured five people, and that Hopkins contends his two shots, from a single gun, did not strike anyone. According to Hopkins’ lawyer, on Aug. 7 he was attempting to shoot Derek Fuller at the Brookdale Apartments. In the July 4 incident, Hopkins lawyer said he was targeting Fuller’s brother, Darius.
