CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A week after waiving his right to a preliminary hearing in the Orangedale Ave. Fourth of July shooting case in Charlottesville, Anthony Hopkins was back in court Thursday, doing the same in his Albemarle County shooting case.

The 20-year-old faces charges of attempted malicious wounding, shooting from a vehicle, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and gang participation, all felonies, stemming from a shooting at Brookdale Apartments on May 24 of last year. No injuries were reported in that incident.

Wearing a lime green jumpsuit and shackles, Hopkins appeared in Albemarle County District Court alongside his attorney, Carlos Moreno, and agreed to have his case advanced to an Aug. 3 grand jury in Albemarle County Circuit Court. He was then remanded back into custody.

On July 2, Hopkins waived his right to a preliminary hearing in the July 4, 2025 Orangedale Ave. shooting case that left five people injured, including two children.

Hopkins is charged with two counts of malicious wounding, two counts of use of a firearm in a felony, two counts of reckless use of a firearm and two counts of willful discharge of a firearm in a public place in that case.
