Alexander Howard Burruss Sr, a devoted husband, loving father, and faithful servant of God, peacefully passed away on April 28, 2024, at the Laurels of Charlottesville. Born on February 19, 1954, in Charlottesville, VA, Alexander was the cherished son of the late Deacon Robert Lewis Burruss Sr. and the late Deaconess Susie Christine Howard Burruss. He was raised in Shadwell, VA, where he formed enduring bonds and cherished memories that would shape his life.

Alexander joined Union Run Baptist Church in Shadwell, Virginia, at an early age. Throughout his life, he remained a steadfast and devoted member, serving in various leadership roles, including Chairman of the Trustee Board. His dedication extended to his involvement in the Senior Choir and Male Chorus, where his voice lifted the spirits of all who heard him. Alexander’s love for the Lord was evident in every aspect of his life, guiding his actions and illuminating his path.

Alexander was a graduate of Albemarle County Schools, Class of 1972, where he demonstrated his commitment to excellence from a young age. Following his graduation, Alexander answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the Army. With honor and dedication, he served his nation before being honorably discharged.

On August 6, 1977, Alexander united in holy matrimony with the love of his life, Ernestine Wells. Together, they shared a bond forged in love and strengthened by faith. Their union was blessed with two children, Shanika and Alexander II, who brought immeasurable joy and pride into his life.

In addition to his wife and children, Alexander leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will be forever cherished by his family and friends. He is survived by his Uncles Lloyd Burruss Sr. (Mary) and Lloyd Howard Sr., and his Aunt Mattie Howard. He is also survived by his sisters Jackie Jamison (Lacy), and Joyce Mills (Curtis), his brothers Kelvin, Andrew, and Robert (Donna). Alexander will be fondly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, all of whom were touched by his kindness and generosity.

Alexander was known for his strong work ethic and unwavering dedication to providing for his family. Over the years, he held various positions, including roles with the Department of Corrections and the Charlottesville City Bus Transit. Additionally, Alexander served as the President of the Silver Lining Bus Tours, where his leadership and vision left an indelible mark on the organization.
