CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Albemarle Scottsville Supervisor Mike Pruitt says they’re hearing citizens loud and clear about uses and access for Ragged Mountain. Pruitt tells Morning News the nature of changing ordinances regarding a city-owned facility that Albemarle County controls is a complicated process… and they’re in a very preliminary stage.

“We’re making a decision to get more information to make a decision to then make a decision,” Pruitt tells Morning News

Pruitt says the prohibition against biking, and even jogging, is also applicable in the Ivy Creek Natural area. Pruitt says there are a lot of moving parts in this process, and outreach is involved to a variety of stakeholders and partners. A number of citizens are asking supervisors to change the ordinance, including Ragged Mountain Running Shop owner Mark Lorenzoni who is asking the county to have an advisory committee of these stakeholders to discuss different uses and how to make them work for everyone. For instance, some of the bikers say it’s okay to just have one of the trails designated for shared use.
