CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) — Residents of Albemarle County will once again have the opportunity to step into the shoes of a police officer when the Albemarle County Police Department hosts its Citizens Police Academy, starting in late February.

The three-day program will run each Saturday from Feb. 21 to March 7 from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. The program will include ride-alongs and virtual reality simulators while covering topics like crime scene investigation, traffic enforcement and K-9 units among others. The goal of the program is to give participants insight into the daily operations of the department while also providing hands-on experience.

Those interested can apply via an online application on ACPD’s website by Feb. 10. Participants must be at least 18 years old, live or own a business in Albemarle County and pass a background check.
