ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Albemarle County Police Department’s Traffic Unit conducted a focused enforcement operation on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, following complaints from residents about overlength trucks on Louisa Road and Gordonsville Road. Trucks longer than 65 feet are not allowed on those roads.

According to an Albemarle County Police statement, “The presence of overlength trucks on these narrow roads has led to several safety concerns, including trucks crossing over into the shoulders or other lanes. These violations pose significant safety risks to other motorists and pedestrians.”

Between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m., officers stopped 17 trucks and issued tickets for being overlength.

According to the police, all the trucks stopped were from out of the area and were either using the roadway as a shortcut or following GPS directions. The fines issued are civil and do not affect the drivers’ Commercial Driver’s Licenses (CDL). Officers reached out to the company to inform them about the restricted route to prevent future violations and say these stops were also used as a way to educate drivers and companies about the restrictions to improve road safety.
