CHARLOTTESVILLE (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A wildfire that burned some 200 acres off Slate Hill Drive in Albemarle County is fully contained after starting around 2:30 Saturday afternoon with a fire reported in a back yard burning in a camper. The fire ignited grass, brush and woods at Slate Hill Road off James Monroe Parkway about a mile from Ashlawn-Highland and grew to 30 acres as if 7 Saturday evening as firefighters worked to fight a fire that was not yet contained.

They were able to get it contained by Sunday morning as smoke wafted over neighborhoods all weekend, including Lake Monticello — and you could see the black smoke billowing into the air from well inside Charlottesville. While the fire is contained, fire leaders say smoke could continue for the next few days. The cause of the camper fire is under investigation.
