Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – In preparation for an approaching tropical storm, Emily Pelliccia, Deputy Chief of Community Risk and Resiliency at Albemarle County Fire Rescue, shared essential safety tips and updates. Pelliccia emphasized the importance of community preparedness: “We are really focused on what this storm is going to do, what kind of activity we’re going to see, and what that means for our community members.”

Pelliccia urged residents to ensure they have enough supplies, clear their gutters, and keep communication devices charged. She also highlighted the importance of checking on vulnerable neighbors to see if they need an extra hand.

As flooding remains a concern, Pelliccia explained that the department has mapped out areas prone to flooding and positioned resources, including swift water rescue teams, to respond quickly. She encouraged residents to sign up for emergency alerts to stay informed about safety threats beyond just the storm, stating, “This is the way that you’re going to get the information straight from us.”

The department remains on high alert and ready to respond to emergencies throughout the storm and its aftermath.
