Albemarle County, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – During a recent Albemarle County Board of Supervisors meeting, several key issues were addressed, including legislative priorities and public safety. Scottsville District Supervisor Mike Pruitt explained that the session was “unusually compressed” due to multiple back-to-back work sessions
A major focus was the implementation of speed monitoring devices in school zones. Pruitt highlighted the need for these devices, stating, “Currently we have some of the killingest roads in Virginia… we have such limited ability to actually monitor these basic traffic safety things.” He also shared that citations will soon be issued in areas where speed cameras are installed.
The board also discussed housing affordability, with Pruitt addressing the need for rent stabilization to prevent sudden rent hikes. “We are an incredibly thriving and prosperous community, but… the poor in our community aren’t making the same that they are elsewhere.”
These discussions reflect Albemarle’s ongoing efforts to balance growth, public safety, and affordable housing.
