ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Albemarle County Police Department has welcomed a new member to its K-9 unit, and they’re looking for help picking a name. The department has put together a list and is asking residents to vote for their favorite at https://engage.albemarle.org/name-the-k9. You’ll be choosing between Tess, Molly or Roxie.
Voting is open through noon on Friday, July 5, and the winning name will be announced on Monday, July 8.
The yet-to-be-named female bloodhound will replace ACPD’s current bloodhound, Bella, who is nearing retirement. Police bloodhounds are trained to use their exceptional sense of smell to track scents and help locate missing people and apprehend fugitives. ACPD has a team of five K-9s who were deployed 189 times in 2023.
