Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – In a recent meeting, the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors tackled important local issues, including rezoning decisions and the future implementation of ranked choice voting in the county. Supervisor Bea LaPisto-Kirtley, representing the Rivanna District, joined an interview to discuss these topics in detail.
One notable issue was the approval of a rezoning request for a parcel on Scottsville Road, allowing the construction of eight residential units. LaPisto-Kirtley explained, “8 units with parking… and that all takes place on what used to be a single-family home.” This development reflects a shift in the area, repurposing a single-family home site into multi-family housing.
Another topic discussed was a special use permit request from Community Christian Academy for a new modular building. LaPisto-Kirtley noted the importance of the project, stating, “The Parsonage building was actually being used for storage in an office, so they’re going to replace that with a new modular building that will accommodate children, small children, young children under 5.”
The discussion also covered the county’s stance on ranked choice voting, recently adopted by the city for local elections starting next year. LaPisto-Kirtley mentioned, “The board has been getting emails pro and con,” highlighting the ongoing community debate.
The conversation highlighted the county’s efforts to address local development needs while considering the potential adoption of new voting methods.
