CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Jonell McFadden, Albemarle County’s chief deputy registrar since Sept. 16, has been appointed as the General Registrar and Director of Elections, just over a week before Election Day, Chairman of the Albemarle County Electoral Board Clara Belle Wheeler announced.

McFadden must secure housing in Albemarle County and become a registered voter there, by code, before being sworn in to the new post.

Interim General Registrar Debbie Wilson will continue in her position through the election and will assist McFadden in her transition into the new role.

“(McFadden) has years of business management experience, financial expertise, and has served as an Electoral Board Member,” Wheeler wrote in the announcement. “She has varied teaching experiences in several different areas including election process and law.”

McFadden will fill the unexpired term of Lauren Eddy, who resigned in August and was charged with embezzling county funds in October.
