CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Albemarle County has brought a veteran elections official across the mountain from the Shenandoah Valley to serve as its interim general registrar.
Albemarle County Electoral Board Chair Clara Belle Wheeler said Debbie Wilson has been hired to the post, through completion of the November elections process.
“We are delighted to have Ms. Wilson,” Wheeler told CvilleRightNow.
Wilson served as general registrar in the city of Harrisonburg for 12 years after previously working as an officer of election and an electoral board member.
“After retiring as one of the very best general registrars in Virginia, she has worked part-time with the gracious general registrar in Waynesboro, Lisa Jeffers,” Wheeler said.
While Wilson serves through this election cycle, Wheeler said they have posted an open job opportunity for the position of general registrar who will fill the unexpired term of the registrar who recently resigned, a term that ends in summer 2027.
There are also openings for chief deputy registrar and elections manager.
Jeania Pace and Erin Davis resigned from those positions respectively since Lauren Eddy resigned as General Registrar August 12. Albemarle Police spokesperson Logan Bogert has confirmed Eddy is under police investigation, but no charges have been filed.
Wheeler said, “We shall continue to provide the County with good elections. Free, fair, safe, and legal elections.”
