PARIS (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Action Network has released a report on the Olympians who made the most headlines across the nation and Virginia. Using the content research tool Buzzsumo, the list highlights the success stories of some of Virginia’s finest athletes on Team USA.

Topping the list is reigning 100-meter dash champion Noah Lyles. The Alexandria, Virginia native edged Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson by a thousandth of a second in the final, finishing with a time of 9.784 seconds to win the gold medal. Lyles gained further attention when he won bronze in the 200-meter final, despite battling what was later revealed to be COVID-19. He was also second on Buzzsumo’s national list of most written-about athletes, with 6,941 articles covering him during the games.

Torri Huske of Arlington finished second on the Virginia list, with 282 articles featuring her name in the headline. She bested UVA star Gretchen Walsh in the 100-meter butterfly final and secured a silver medal behind Swedish champion Sarah Sjöström in the 100-meter freestyle final. Huske also won two relay medals: a silver in the 4×100 freestyle relay, setting an American record of 3:30.20 as a team, and gold in the mixed 4×100 medley relay.

Chesapeake’s Grant Holloway came third with 247 articles, celebrating a long-awaited Olympic gold in the 100-meter hurdles. Emily Fox of Ashburn, part of the gold-medal-winning U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team, placed fourth with 62 articles. Kevin Paredes of South Riding finished fifth with 29 articles covering his performance on the men’s soccer team.

Crozet’s Thomas Heilmann secured seventh place after his performances in the 100 and 200-meter butterfly events.
