CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – While overall calls to the Albemarle County Police for service went up 23% in 2025, the most serious crimes saw marked declines for the second straight year.
Part I crimes, the most serious offenses, dropped by 13%, gun violence fell by 30% and violent crime dipped by 23%, according to the ACPD’s annual report, released Tuesday.
Property crimes also decreased by 13%.
Calls for service went up 23%, with ACPD responding to 92,727 calls in 2025, up from the 75,403 it handled the year before.
Most of the calls were officer initiated (57,616), with 35,111 coming from the public.
There were three homicides in the county in 2025 after having two the year before.
The volume of mental health calls the department dealt with remained essentially steady. ACPD dealt with 891 mental health calls in 2025, after responding to 888 of those calls in 2024.
Traffic statistics were similar in 2025 to the year before. ACPD responded to 2,062 crashes, after dealing with 2,188 the previous year. In both years, there were seven fatal crashes.
Motor vehicle thefts dropped significantly, according to the report. There were 109 in the county in 2024 and then 62 last year.
