ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Albemarle County Police Department made two arrests following a joint FBI Project Safe Neighborhoods Operation that began on the evening of Tuesday, July 22, and ended in the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 23, 2025.
Officers initiated a traffic stop when they saw a vehicle failing to stay within the lane of travel. They then observed the two inside moving around items inside the vehicle, at which time officers asked the driver and passenger to step out. Both were found to be in possession of firearms. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed marijuana, cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and additional ammunition.
The driver, identified as 20-year-old Zaquan J. Thorne, of Charlottesville, was arrested and charged with:
- Possession of a stolen firearm (§18.2-108.1)
- Possession of a controlled substance (§18.2-250)
- Possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled substance (§18.2-308.4)
- Possession of a concealed weapon (§18.2-308)
Thorne is being held at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail without bond.
The passenger of the vehicle, a 16-year-old juvenile, was charged with possession of a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm by a person under 18, and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
