CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW)- Albemarle County Police Chief Colonel Sean Reeves praised the work of his department and pointed to an overall drop in violent crime Thursday, the day the ACPD released its mid-year crime report.

“I could not be more proud of the officers who work, and not just the officers, but the non-sworn support staff that work with the Albemarle County Police Department,” Reeves said during an appearance on WINA Morning News on Thursday.

According to the mid-year crime report, of the 41,498 calls for service received between the first of January and the 30th of June 2025, only 465 were priority response calls (e.g. crimes against persons, violence, etc.).  Appearing on WINA Morning News however, Colonel Reeves mentioned that 465 was a 10% increase from the mid-year crime report from last year.

Several other trends detailed in the report speak to the department’s success record.  Overall violent crime is down 32%, and overall property crime is down 18%.  Robberies and stolen vehicle cases are both down 56%.

When asked what he attributes these decreases to, Reeves did not mince words, giving all credit to the great policework of the Albemarle County PD, and their collaboration with both their local partners, CPD and UVAPD, and their federal partners at the FBI.
