CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Accuweather has issued its fall foliage forecast for 2024, and long-range meteorologist Paul Pastelok tells NewsRadio WINA we could see and early peak and short season along Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Pastelok said the flash drought we had this summer means leaves not going through the complete maturing process, and falling off the trees prematurely. That means spotty hit-and-miss colors in our area.

He says we usually see a peak in late October, and the drought might have moved that up a bit until the early part of that month. The Blue Ridge Parkway didn’t get hit as badly by drought as Shenandoah National Park, so the colors might be better the farther south of Afton you go.
