Richmond, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger, currently representing Virginia’s 7th district and a candidate for governor in 2025, addressed key issues including gun violence and substance abuse on WINA Morning News.
During the discussion, Spanberger expressed deep sorrow over a recent school shooting in Georgia, highlighting her dual perspective as both a lawmaker and a mother of three. “I’m also a mom with three school-aged children, so I know for any parent… it hits home in a different way,” she said. She emphasized the need for “common-sense steps” to address gun violence, noting that the number one killer of kids under 18 is gun violence.
Spanberger also spoke about her efforts to combat the fentanyl crisis. She pointed out the deadly rise in fentanyl-laced drugs, stressing the importance of community-based recovery programs. “For many people, being surrounded by others who are facing the same challenge, being surrounded by others who know the journey, that know what it is to make it a complete change in in your life is a really vital,” she explained.
As she continues her congressional duties and campaign for governor, Spanberger remains focused on addressing these critical issues affecting communities across Virginia.
