CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A Lynchburg man has been charged with the second-degree murder in the death a Prospect woman.

On Friday, Demetrius M. Brown, 28, was charged with second degree murder for the death of Samantha Okinyi, 23, and taken into custody without incident.

On Saturday, the Virginia State Police, Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Appomattox Field Office; along with the Department of Conservation & Recreation, Law Enforcement Rangers; and the Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office, were called to investigate a suspicious death in the Prospect area of the High Bridge Trail State Park.

At approximately 7:30 a.m., two bicyclists reported finding the remains of a deceased white female, later identified as Okinyi, in the Prospect area of the State Park.

Brown is currently awaiting processing in City of Lynchburg.
