CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Several veterans of the Charlottesville Tom Sox had their names called in the final rounds of the 2024 MLB Draft. They now have the opportunity to prove their skills in Minor League Baseball to continue their careers. After four former Tom Sox were taken off the board in the early rounds, led by East Carolina righthander Trey Yesavage in the 1st round, five more former players entered MiLB in rounds 11-20.
Catcher James Nunnalee, the only current player who declared for the draft, was picked by the Brewers in round 14. The high school slugger has committed to UVA, so it remains to be seen whether he will play in the NCAA or in the Brewers organization.
Two Virginia Tech players were selected in rounds 15 and 18, respectively. Righthander Jordan Little, who played for the Sox in 2023, went to the Reds. Shortstop Christian Martin, who played in Charlottesville in 2022, was chosen by the Cardinals.
Another righthander on the 2022 pitching staff, East Carolina’s Wyatt Lunsford-Shenkman, was picked by the Mariners in round 16.
Lastly, in round 20, the Miami Marlins picked UCF righthander Chase Centala, who played for the Tom Sox in 2021.
