CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The U.S. Department of Education has transferred the former Federal Executive Institute property to the University of Virginia.
The deed was filed in Charlottesville Circuit Court on August 1, 2025.

As shared with UVA’s numerous stakeholders today, acquisition of the former Federal Executive Institute (FEI) property, located at 1301 Emmet St. North, is now complete. On Aug. 1, 2025, the deed was filed with the City of Charlottesville Circuit Court Clerk and the property transferred from the U.S. Department of Education to the University of Virginia. The deed requires UVA to operate the property for at least the next 30 years and provide annual operational progress reports to the U.S. Department of Education.
As specified in the deed, UVA must use the property for the purposes of its ROTC and School of Continuing and Professional Studies programs. Next steps include naming the property and completing necessary renovations and repairs. The upcoming spring semester is the target date for classroom use and programming.
UVA remains steadfast in its commitment to public service through existing collaborations with the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County.
