CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) After taking in 39 more dogs last week, the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA shelter is at capacity and the organization is urgently seeking people to adopt or foster a pet to free up space and resources.

CAPSCA announced the situation Saturday evening, saying that, with 89 dogs currently being housed, almost every available kennel at the facility has been filled.

As other shelters struggle with overcrowding, CASPCA has been asked to take in transfer dogs to help them avoid euthanasia. In order for the shelter to continue that practice, it needs to find permanent or temporary homes for some of the dogs currently on site.

“We’re calling on our supporters and neighbors to help us open space through adoption and fostering,” an organization spokesperson said in the release. “Even a few days of fostering can make room for another life in crisis.”

The shelter is open daily from 12-6 p.m. and potential fosters can apply at https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/foster/CHO/Dog.
