Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Senior Minister Matthew Tennant continues to be a familiar voice in the Charlottesville community. Whether through “Minute with God” or Sunday services at University Baptist Church (UBC), he brings messages of unity and optimism to his congregation.
“It’s a great start to the year,” said Tennant. “A lot of optimism in the church. Weve got a great staff put together, and just some exciting stuff.”
This Friday, January 24th, UBC will host a special Jazz Vespers service at 5:30 PM. The event, which highlights themes of service and community, coincides with the church’s upcoming participation in PACEM, a local initiative providing shelter for unhoused individuals.
“PACEM is a way for churches to offer shelter to unhoused people. So they set up cots in the fellowship hall. And then the best part about it is building relationships. We have a meal together in the evening, we play games, put together puzzles and spend time with these folks and often really get to know them” Tennant explained.
The Jazz Vespers will feature renowned local musicians, including Joseph Nichols on bass and Ben Isenberg on drums, promising an evening of inspiring music and reflection.
