Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW): The UVA Women’s Soccer Team has yet to lose a game in the 2024 season.  Following a hard-fought 1-0 victory at VCU last Thursday, the Hoos took to the pitch at Klöckner stadium on Sunday afternoon for the 2024 Mental Health Awareness game and put four goals past the Howard Bison to the delight of a jubilant home crowd.

UVA forced two early saves out of Howard keeper Trinity Knox, but their backline would be unable to keep the Wahoo attack from the net for much longer.  After 20 minutes, Samar Guidry hit home a rebound after Allie Ross that was initially denied by Knox.  It was Guidry’s first goal of the season.  Trinity Knox was able to keep the Virginia attack to just one goal in the first half, saving nine shots in the first half alone.  She made three more saves for Howard in the second half, but the game soon got away from the Bison.

A lengthy attack to begin the half would yield results after ten minutes.   After three shots and a corner kick, Ella Carter found the back of the net with her second goal of the season thanks to clinical buildup Alexis Theoret and a cross from Sophia Bradley.  In the 74th Kiki Maki buried a corner from Linda Mittermair into the net for the third goal of the game and her second of the year.  The last goal came towards the end of the match, with energy critically low for both sides, Laila Cowsette conceded a penalty for Howard, which Allie Ross converted for UVA, calmly rattling the twine to make the score 4-0.

The UVA defense notched another clean sheet in front of Camryn Miller minding the net for the Hoos, it was Miller’s first collegiate start in goal.  They will look to extend their winning streak to eight games as ACC play begins this week.  Their next game will be a road match against Miami on Thursday, September 12th.  Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM on ACCNX.
