RICHMOND (WINA) – Governor Youngkin is at a groundbreaking of a project that will widen the remaining two-lane section of I-64 between Richmond and Hampton Roads. Work starts today on “Segment A” of a 3-segment project that will add a third lane east and westbound on 64 where it is two lanes from approximately Bottoms Bridge to Lightfoot. “Segment A” is in the Richmond area through New Kent County and adds the lane between Bottoms Bridge and just east of the Providence Forge-New Kent exit.

This actual construction work begins as procurement also begins for “Segment C” that will be next to be built in the Williamsburg area from Lightfoot west to MM 224, which is about halfway between Route 30 Toano and West Point-Eltham exits. Later, procurement and work will begin on “Segment B” completing the 3-lanes in each direction with completion expected Spring 2028.
