WASHINGTON, DC (WINA) – A northern Virginia Congressional rep is using World Parkinson’s Day today (Tuesday) to reveal she has the disease. Democrat Jennifer Wexton announced on social media it’s not going to stop her from serving Virginia’s 10th District.

She says what Parkinson’s is is a movement disorder that affects people’s bodies in different ways — and has affected her speech and how her mouth moves, which is why she speaks more quickly. What is is NOT is an untreatable disease, cognitive impairment or death sentence. She says she’s working with her doctor on a treatment plan that addresses her symptoms and keep her feeling good and strong.
