CULPEPER (WINA) – VDOT is standing by for another storm starting with a wintry mix in some areas, especially higher elevations, transitioning to rain and strong winds lasting throughout the day and into Wednesday. Crews mobilizing at midnight Tuesday morning to respond to the potential for icy roads, road flooding, downed trees, and other travel hazards.

The early morning wintry mix could cause an icy glaze on roadways, since temperatures will be near freezing at that time. Be especially cautious of overpasses, bridges, ramps and intersections since these areas are the first to freeze over.

The wintry mix will usher in heavy rain and wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour in some areas by late morning. Flooding is a concern along with the possibility of downed trees and other debris blocking roadways.
