UVALDE, TX (WINA) – The Uvalde Foundation For Kids — a national nonprofit formed following the May 2022 school shooting In Uvalde, Texas — has begun immediate recruitment for community volunteers to join its STOP NOW Volunteer School Patrols planned for the Charlottesville High School. The foundation noted that it will be sending several teams, modeled after the Guardian Angels in New York City, this week. A foundation release says they’ve responded more recently to the Richneck Elementary School shooting of Abby Zwerner in Newport News, as well as the Covenant School tragedy in Nashville.

The foundation says their response is due to increased student safety concerns by students, faculty and school community members who report that weekly fights, bullying, outside intruders and a general inability by school administrators to adequately respond to the concerns. Additionally, the foundation said it will begin the process of an independent review of violence at the school and is currently interviewing several concerned teachers who have contacted the foundation for assistance.

Foundation officials say they are looking at other area district schools for their off campus patrols as well as how to provide additional support to the school district and community overall.
