STRASBURG (WINA) – State Police is investigating the shooting death of a suspect Sunday night by a Town of Stasburg police officer. State Police says Shenandoah County Emergency Dispatch got a call around 11 Sunday night about an individual acting erratically, damaging property, and threatening people inside a hotel on Signal Knob Drive in the town.

When Stasburg Police arrived, an officer encountered a female suspect in the rear parking of of the hotel, and an altercation ensued during which she was able to grab the officer’s ASP baton and strike him in the head. The officer pulled his gun and shot her, and she was transported to Winchester Medical Center where she died.

The officer was treated at hospital with minor injuries, and the suspect’s remains are at the state medical examiner in Manassas for identification and autopsy.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
