ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WINA) – A growing number of Albemarle parents are ready to see someone else take charge of Albemarle County Public Schools.
Paul McArtor launched a petition on Sunday, Aug 20. The goal was 1,000 signatures. As of Wednesday evening, he was just 114 away.
While the lack of bus drivers is the straw that broke the camel’s back, McArtor says it goes far beyond that.
“We have certain expectations of our superintendent,” he says. “And those expectations are you’re going to be able to get kids to school, you’re going to be able to manage your buildings and your facilities so that you’re not having to teach kids in the hallway, that you’re going to be able to educate kids no matter what their race, income, all those factors.”
He doesn’t want the school board to fire Superintendent Haas. He does, however, ask that they start the search for a replacement now and not renew Haas’ contract when it expires in 2025.
