RICHMOND (WINA) – In an announcement from Richmond’s mayor that’s been anticipated for months: Levar Stoney in a Monday morning release and video announced he’s running for the Democrats’ nomination for Governor. In a three-and-a-half minute opening campaign video — that’s longer than most — Stoney says his administration has fixed the capitol city’s crumbling infrastructure, removed confederate statues that don’t represent the city’s values and built schools that do, and got the fiscal house in order.

Right now, he’s challenging in a Democratic race 7th District Congressional Rep. Abigail Spanberger who announced her candidacy last month.

Stoney grew up in York County, graduated from JMU where he was with the Young Democrats, and has worked his way through the state Democratic party into elective politics.
