DURHAM, N.C.  – No. 12 Virginia (45-12) was eliminated from the ACC Tournament on Thursday (May 25) after a 10-2 loss to North Carolina (35-21) at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The Tar Heels snaped UVA’s 10-game win streak in the process.

Sophomore Ethan Anderson went 2-for-4 with a home run in the contest. The Cavalier first baseman went 4-for-8 with two home runs and two RBI in two games in Durham. Anthony Stephan and Henry Godbout each had two hits in the contest.

  • North Carolina and Virginia traded unearned runs to begin the game’s scoring. UNC’s Mac Horvath came around to score in the first inning on a UVA fielding error. The Cavaliers evened the game up at one in the third when Godbout came around to score on a two-out Tar Heels fielding error.
  • North Carolina scored nine of the game’s next 10 runs on three, three-run innings. UNC catcher Tomas Frick drove in five of the runs, two on a single through the lefts side in the seventh and then delivered a two-out, three-run double in the eighth to put the Tar Heels up 10-2.
  • Anderson homered for the second-straight day with a solo shot to right field in the sixth inning to pull UVA within two runs.
