SYRIA (WINA) – The Virginia Department of Forestry says as of 8 this morning, the Madison County Quaker Run fire was at around 425 acres and 35% containment. The department’s Kevin Dawson says they had about 20% of the 650-acre containment line surrounding the fire. Because of the steep, rocky terrain, Dawson says it’s been a challenge to get firefighters safely in and out of the scene. Dawson said state and federal firefighters have been there, but the locals from Greene and Madison counties have been an immense help… with nearby residents from Graves Mountain letting them know trails and roads where they can get best access to the rugged fire scene.
The forecast has good news of possibly a bit of rain which they can dearly use… but also a pickup of the wind speed which they definitely do NOT need.
