PALMYRA (WINA) – Lake Monticello and Albemarle water rescue teams, along with lifeguards from the pool, saved a woman who crashed her vehicle into the lake. It happened around 10 Thursday morning when the elderly woman lost control of her vehicle on Edgewater Drive near the clubhouse at the pool area, smashed through the pool space, dropped down onto the beach, then into the water through the Beach 1 swim area. Lake Monticello Fire says pool lifeguards were first on the scene, and pulled the woman from the car through the driver’s side window before it sank into 10 feet of water.
After a lake rescue member free dived to make sure no one else was in the vehicle, fire department crews put webbing straps on so the vehicle could be pulled from the lake. Other team members dove to verify no additional debris in the swim area.
